The first fortnight in July sees the holding of the Cherry Festival in Beade (Plaza de la Cultura) where what are considered to be the best cherries of Galicia are tasted and sold.
On the 10 th , is the Corpus Christi procession, and the 14 th , the Festival of Saint Antón.
On the 2 nd Sunday of July, we celebrate the Festival of the Virgen del Carmen (Virgin of El Carmen) , in el Berbés. It is said that this is the oldest festival in Vigo . It is held in honour of the Virgen del Carmen – the patron saint of fishermen – and is very popular because of the fishing tradition in Vigo . We would recommend that you watch the naval procession, in which thousands of the faithful participate with a number of boats.
The third Sunday of July is the Bouzas Festival . More than 200 years old, they revolve around the Romería del Santísimo Cristo de los Afligidos ( Procession of the Holy Christ of the Afflicted) . They culminate with the famous fire work display, which is visible from nearly anywhere in Vigo .
The month of August is the month of festivals par excellence. It is the month of the Festival of Cristo de la Victoria (Christ of the Victory), which begin at the end of July. The image of this Christ was brought by a salt merchant in the XVII Century, which is why he is also called the “Cristo de la Sal “(“Christ of Salt”). After the reconquest of Vigo in 1809, after the population was put under his protection, it came to be called Christ of the Victory. This procession is the one that brings together the largest number of the faithful and devout as it is the most traditional procession held in the city. It marks the beginning of the "Semana Grande de Vigo" ( Vigo Week)
On the 15th and 16th we celebrate the San Roque Festival , some of the most popular and traditional processions in Vigo . A mass is held to worship this Saint in the Chapel of the same name, and this is followed by a popular procession in the patio of a ruined country house. The festival is characterised by its gastronomic appeal, its entertainment, the fair attractions and the traditional fireworks.
18th and 24th August: Procession of the Virgen del Alba (Virgin of the Dawn) in Valladares and the 3 rd Sunday: Octopus Festival in Valladares.
The month ends with the Fiesta del Pan de Maíz (Pan de millo) or Corn Bread Festival in Cabral. A gastronomic festival classified as “of tourist interest” by the Galicia Regional Government.
