Vigo's ria, which runs for 14,000 hectares, is an excellent natural port protected by the Cíes islands and the Morrazo peninsula.

Thanks to the magnificent conditions of its ria, the port of Vigo is one of the most valued of the continent. In the last year, Vigo 's fishing port has once again become the most important in Spain , and one of the most important in the world. Practically all continents are linked to the port of Vigo as are a large number of regular lines from Northern Europe to South Africa , and from South America to the Far East .

We should not forget that this magnificent port has been chosen as the starting point for the World Sailing Cup - the Volvo Ocean Race, which will be held in Vigo this year, 2005.
